Re: [Salon] How long can Israel keep insulting its benefactors

Thank you for that honesty Warren! And how many “Conservatives” stood up to oppose such fascist ideas? Not a f***ing one, I would wager, as half the other Conservatives in the room were Straussian/Schmittian, as is the usual case, like Anton, if not more, and the remainder wouldn’t know a Straussian/Schmittian if they were run over by a truck driven by the ghosts of Carl Schmitt, Leo Strauss, with Willmoore Kendall sitting on the middle hump (I know my semi- trucks, having been an actual “Main Street,” small town, denizen; not a “Private Equity” industry Schmittian/Straussian like The American Conservative favorite Peter Thiel, and his "stable” of fellow Carl Schmitt devotees. Which for those of you who don’t know, Carl Schmitt was a fascist, before, during, and after he joined the Nazi Party. Which I implacably and inalterably oppose, even more so when I found out how influential he was with the “National Security State” with my work related to Guantanamo and appearing before Conservative Judges who were obviously in full agreement with Schmitt (see attached file).

I await your answer for how many “traditionalists/Libertarians” denounced Anton for his fascism Warren? Or even just left, but at least you had the courage to not stand by on hearing a fascist speaker before you. A very rare commodity amongst conservatives, I know. I was the only person who denounced alt-rightist Richard Spencer and his Schmitt worshipping friend at a H.L. Mencken Society meeting. And but for liking him personally, I would have also denounced Paul Gottfreid for putting such a program on, which I’d attended out of curiosity as I knew they would be speaking on Schmitt. And, I wanted to tell Gottfried his book on Schmitt was just a “soft-soap job,” with no redeeming value. But after hearing the fascist Spencer, I got up, went to the mic, denounced them, and then I walked out. Claes Ryn is my witness, who then told me of a meeting coming up of the Academy of Philosophy & Letters, which, when seeing noted Straussian and Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn there, I knew it was equally or more irredeemable than Gottfried’s “Conservative” group.

In the binary conditioned thinking we are limited to, I can hear someone say, “but look at the Democrats and the war in Ukraine.” A war begun before Trump, way before Trump, but escalated by Trump with a massive offensive designed military buildup for use against all of China, Russia and Iran, which only a total idiot wouldn’t know was being built for war. Which Democratic Party Conservatives had on hand when they continued Trump’s policies and Russia finally realized we weren’t kidding about being the “military rulers of the world," with the millions of humans we’ve killed just since we “kicked the Vietnam Syndrome!” (Hallelujah!

But what I’ve seen since becoming more aware of the “genealogy” (a political theory term, in the field of “History of Ideas) of Conservatism, having once been stupid too in seeing “Conservatism” as monolithic, and not as competing “political theorists” (see "The Benevolent Sage of Mecosta” in which Willmoore Kendal viciously (ideologically) attacks Russell Kirk as one example of that. Especially over the last 5 years or so, I’ve seen of the “defensiveness” of “Conservatives,” where a person is not supposed to “dissect” and/or analyze “distinctive” modes of conservative thought, or even point them out. Nor to recall the extreme animosities that existed with Willmoore Kendall and his fellow NR CIA colleagues against most of their fellow Conservatives not named Leo Strauss. And against Eisenhower! Instead, they resemble a herd of cattle, standing asses to asses in a circle, in defense against any ideas which could disrupt the “consensus” which Kendall and Joe McCarthy shouted was necessary to society. Like Carl Schmitt had. And unlike the last and only conservative I retain respect for, Bruce Fein. Who by today’s “Trumpist” standards, is a “RINO,” as he is an ardent defender of the First Amendment, as someone virtually did here recently. With Bruce too necessarily opposed to the kind of anti-constitutional fanatic who wrote the following, with the exception of "Guantanamo at 10,” a stand-up Constitutionalist :-):

I would like to second Graham’s comments and add a note on Michael Anton. I have been a member of the Philadelphia Society since Milton Friedman, my doctoral dissertation advisor at U of Chicago, took me to a meeting in 1967 or 8, It has always included a wide range of right of center views (from Liberarians to traditionalists) and the resulting debates were fun and interesting. Michael Anton spoke at the last meeting I attended earlier this year or last last year. He was so far out there that I got up and walked out (hopefully not forever).

Todd, you have performed  some interesting ideological contortions here — God knows to what end. In a Washington groaning with think tanks that all perpetuate in virtual unison what is essentially the American imperial/ hegemonic  narrative, you call out  the Quincy Institute as “conservative”? I am not interested in ideological genealogies or pedigrees that you like to track. It should be plain to any informed observer that the Quincy Institute is virtually, the only serious major think tank in washington, perhaps in the US,  that pursues a basically progressive view of US foreign policy issues. If decrying war, opposing massive military budgets, criticizing provocative US approaches to Russia and China, and promoting the need for peaceful negotiations and the embrace of a more multilateral world  isn’t progressive, then I don’t know what is—especially  in a Washington that seems otherwise trapped in an ideological bubble of hegemonic uniformity.. You seem to perceive the  Good here as the enemy of the Perfect.  I, for one, I am grateful for small blessings of rationality that the Quincy Institute brings us  that just may eventually  nudge the Washington bubble into a  more rational vision of the world.

Chas just shared this article asking: "How long can Israel keep insulting its benefactors?"

That’s easy to answer. As long as we, the U.S., has Republican Conservative ZioCons calling themselves “Realists,” and claiming to be for “restraint” in foreign policy, as a monumental “Big Lie,” a “Deception Campaign.” With them leading the way in support for, and establishing the minimum level of support for Israeli fascism they’ll deem acceptable, for one to avoid being denounced as “anti-Israel/anti-Semitic, while simultaneously working to “outlaw” speech in support of the BDS Movement.

A “Realism” propagated most prominently and forcefully by The American Conservative magazine, but often by that other “Conservative/Realist” foreign policy promoter, the Quincy Institute, as well.  And by the politicians/“political theorists” whom they always trot out to “re-orient” TAC’s past-readers, and to inculcate the current generation of “New Rightist” in the “direction” they’re now supposed to follow. As Trump (and Hillsdale/Claremont/CUA laid out, in favor of war on China (as motive for this type to oppose” war on Russia, as war on China taking precedence for them, and saving Russia as a “mopping-up operation), in opposition to the “actual” Constitution, and demanding even more obsequiousness to Israeli fascist “interests.” As laid out by TAC’s favorite Straussian political theorist Michael Anton:  (https://jewishinsider.com/2020/09/former-trump-nsc-official-michael-anton-speaks-out-on-foreign-policy/). Quote: “America has allies out of shared conviction and shared interests… Some of these alliances that you have are simply because of a natural affinity to democracies that share common values, and so on and so forth, and relationships built up over decades. And you don’t necessarily ask the question, ‘Hey, what am I getting out of this today?’ It’s not a calculation at every step of the way in foreign policy.”

With those “Traditional Conservatives” working along with like-minded “libertarians” to cut U.S. domestic spending, like USPS as one glaring example, in order to create more “room” in the budget for increased military spending, and more “aid” for Israel, as the NY Post article here disingenuously promoted, by the Republicans its author enthused over:
With this showing the “interests” uppermost in Republican Mace’s mind:

https://nancymace.org/issues/stand-with-israel/

and this in Republican Chip Roy’s, and other “Realist’s” defined “interests:” https://cc.org/congressman-chip-roy-leads-house-effort-to-cut-funding-to-anti-israel-u-n-office/co-sponsors: Mike Lee (R-Utah), Warren Davidson (OH-8), Dan Bishop (NC-8), Matt Gaetz (FL-1)

Not at all coincidentally, these “Conservative Realists” all have one thing in common: they’re adored by The American Conservative magazine as “Foreign Policy Experts,” and falsely described as being for “Realism and Restraint” (though not in an Orwellian way). While doing their utmost as well, without “Restraint,” to reducing the taxation of the Oligarch”s whose “interests” they seem to prioritize almost equal to Israeli fascists, and War on China! And, I would note, in a “Military Occupation,” as Israel’s is of Palestinian Territory, every Palestinian house destroyed, every Palestinian family displaced as ethnic cleansing, every illegal Settlement created or expanded, every bit of Palestinian land expropriated, every Palestinian ordered into “Military Detention,” etc., constitute “Acts of War.” Of which Trump fully joined in as a “co-belligerent,” without even the minimal “restraint” that Obama/Biden showed, and demonstrated with the “restraint” of the JCPOA.

P.S. I will leave it to you to search "Rep. Rob Good Israel,” to complete this. To include Rand Paul as a necessary “symbol” of “Restraint,” shown by joining in this deception (in my opinion) while fully engaged in enabling all the War Party’s Oligarchs to maximize their wealth, to maximize their war-profiteering. And maximizing his fund-raising by “protecting his brand.”
